Negotiating Christian Cultural Heritage

This article shows how Christmas in schools and public service media for children (PSM) involves negotiation renewal of Christian cultural heritage. Across the studied cases from Norway Denmark, we find that institutions involved seek to realize community. However, community is approached differently different settings. It either understood restoratively as a process which children, including immigrant become part an existing societal community, or constructively establishing inclusive across religious divides. A major finding activities associated with Christianity such school services are framed language ‘museumification’ not living practice capacity change transform. Whereas Islam positioned ‘religious other’, culture facilitates creative heritage making, Contrary political rhetoric, PSM by large dominated safeguarding nationalistic discourse.
